Hi, I’m Ben. In the past 25 years, I’ve been exceptionally good at f*cking up. I’m here to teach you how to do the same.
So what is this book about? Glad you asked.
This is a book about fear, uncertainty, and doubt. This is a book about wanting to do all the things you ever dreamed of, but being held back by the fear of things going horribly wrong.
This is a book about pushing past those fears – and plot twist: having those fears come true.
This is where my story departs from the fairy-tale stories you’ve probably heard so many times before. Because reaching for your dreams isn’t all pretty flowers and roses – it’s heartbreak and failure and deep, dark places.
But then there’s the double plot twist: every time things get dark, there’s inevitably even greater light on the other end of the tunnel. And somehow, life just keeps getting better, even every time the apocalypse seems imminently just around the corner.
This is a story of how dropping out of Harvard after a single semester due to suicidal depression led to me being gifted a free $100,000 by a billionaire in California to start my dream company.
Of how getting mugged in Africa and being carried down in a stretcher from Kilimanjaro on my first time ever traveling alone led to me visiting all 7 continents in a year and meeting my cofounder in Antarctica.
How living on the side of the street in an RV ended up with me owning an island in Nova Scotia, a condo in Vegas, and house in Budapest.
How getting dumped by my wife and having my cofounder leave our company on the same day ended up with me having a better relationship than I ever dreamed possible and growing our company tenfold.
And how getting my car stolen twice back to back on two consecutive days and having to track down the perpetrator myself and live streaming the experience led me to writing this book.
Through it all, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: even if all your worst fears come true, you’ll be better off for it.
